Ex SP minister Gayatri Prajapati arrested by UP police from Lucknow

Lucknow: Former mining minister in the outgoing Samajwadi Party (SP) government Gayatri Prajapati, who is accused in a gang rape case was today arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police in Lucknow today.

 

 

Prajapati who is absconding since February 27th, came under pressure after two of his sons were detained by the Uttar Pradesh police on yesterday.

The minister is believed to be very close associate of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Prajapati contested recently concluded the state assembly elections in 2017 from Amethi, the seat which was won by him in 2012.

The Supreme Court in February had ordered the state police to lodge an FIR against the minister.

The gang rape victim had accused the minister’s henchmen of terrorising her and her daughter in a Delhi hospital.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Javeed Ahmad said, Gayatri was being tracked for some time and that he was constantly changing location.

Apart from him six other accused have already been held by the police earlier in the same case.
