Srinagar: At least four terrorists were killed when security forces foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, an official said on Monday.
According to army official said on Monday morning that it had killed four militants and foiled an infiltration bid in the Jammu and Kashmir’s Keran sector.
“A major infiltration bid from across the LoC was foiled by the Army troops in Keran sector yesterday (Sunday) evening,” Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia told media persons.
The alleged infiltration bid took place late Sunday night-after a day of violence in the Valley that left eight people dead and scores injured as angry mobs disrupted polling during a Lok Sabha bypoll in Srinagar.
“A search operation is going on in the area,” he said.
The election commission pegged the turnout at 7.14%, a low not seen in the militancy torn region since the late 90s. The government has often attributed the violence to incitement by outsiders sponsored by Pakistan.
