Islamabad: This is for the first time that the Interior Ministry of Pakistan has today admitted that mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks; Hafiz Saeed is a terrorist and has been involved in destabilising peace within Pakistan territory.
Saeed who is the Chief of Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) has enjoyed protection by the Pakistani government which has sidelined his terrorism links, despite him being marked as an international terrorist and even carrying a bounty of $10 million due to his role in terror activities.
The report of interior ministry came in response to a petition filed by Saeed in court protesting against ‘illegal detention’ over the past few months.
The Pakistan interior ministry wrote a letter to the Lahore High Court stating that Saeed is linked with militancy and terror acts and is involved in ‘destabilising peace within Pakistan’. The letter also states that activities of JuD and Saeed are in violation of Pakistan’s obligations to the United Nations Security Council.
Saeed along with four other leaders of JuD had been placed under house arrest on January 30 following multiple terror attacks.
