LUCKNOW: The UP government has decided to convert 73 state roads into national highways, for which Rs 10,000 crore has been sanctioned.

The government has also decided to build ring roads bypass in six cities -Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Kanpur, Meerut, Bareilly and Moradabad.

Announcing this, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the decision has been taken in view of increased traffic burden in the six cities.
This would be apart from the expressway project proposed between Jhansi and Lucknow-Agra expressway .

The deputy chief minister reiterated that the state government was committed to making all roads in the state pothole-free.

Soon after coming to power, the BJP government had set the target of making 1,21,000km roads pothole-free by June 15.

Maurya said that making roads free of potholes was an ongoing process.

 Maurya added that the state government will set up seven food processing parks in the state to boost agriculture.
The renovation of old and closed cinema halls would also be expedited, he said.
