Lucknow: The festival of Basant Panchami or Vasant Panchami is celebrated all over the country especially in North India state like Uttar Pradesh. On this special day there is a provision of worshiping of Goddess Saraswati by the people as she was born this day.

 

 

The word Vasant Panchami has a specific meaning: Vasant means “spring” and Panchami means “the fifth day.” Vasant Panchami falls on the fifth day of spring.

Vasant Panchami is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the bright half of the Hindu luni-solar calendar month of Magha, which typically falls in late January or February.

 

 

It is treated as the start of spring, though it is generally winter-like in northern India, and more spring-like in central and western parts of India.

The festival is particularly observed in the north, central and western parts by Hindus of India and in Nepal. It has been a historical tradition of Sikhs as well.

Many people in Hindu religion use to also worship God of love to worship Kaam Devta. On other hand, this festival keeps special significance for the farmers in India.

As from Vasant Panchami, the fields glows-up with flowers of mustard plants. Not only this, seeds of chick pea popularly known as grams (Chana), Barley, Sorghum (jawar) and wheat earrings starts to bloom.

 

 

From this day, season of spring begins and winter season starts receding in entire northern region. Although, there are six types of seasons in India, but Vasant is said to be the King of the Seasons.

Now, with the beginning of spring season the weather gets refreshed and starts becoming pleasant throughout North India region. Not only this, new fruits, fresh leaves and flowers start growing in trees and plants. On this day kite flying is also done in many places.

 

 

According to Panchag, the festival of Vasant Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day Magh month. According to the Gregorian calendar this year festival of Basana Panchami will be celebrated on January 22nd.
