A minor girl was allegedly raped by a man, who abducted her from outside her school in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur and later tried to kill her, triggering a protest by locals who kept the market area of the city closed on Thursday, 28 June, with the bar association refusing to represent the accused, as per reports .
The incident took place on Tuesday, 26 June evening, and the accused, identified as Irfan alias Bhaiyu (20), was arrested late on 27 June, a police official said .
Irfan Khan, a labourer in a local market, had taken the girl, who was waiting for her father after school, to a secluded place and raped her. He had slit her throat with a sharp-edged weapon and left her for dead, police said.
On Wednesday night, she was found in a pool of blood near her school and admitted to MY Hospital in Indore in a critical condition.
Her condition is stated to be stable. MY Hospital’s Dr Sharad Thora said, “The girl is responding to treatment and getting better. But she is mentally disturbed due to the incident.”
CCTV footage helped the police to nab the accused. On being arrested by the police, the accused reportedly admitted that it was him who perpetrated the crime.
The outraged parents took to streets after the incident, staging widespread demonstration.
The local Muslims also protested against the incident and demanded capital punishment for the accused. Accused Irfan has been bool for kidnapping and rape under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on the medical examination of the girl and doctor’s statement.
This incident has triggered massive protests against the sexual crime against minor as it reflects another Nirbhaya rape incident.
