Decrease in migration of northeast youths for jobs: Minister

New Delhi, Sep 11 (IANS) Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday claimed that the migration of youths from the northeast for jobs outside their respective states had come down.

Discussing Nagaland’s new educational projects here with the state’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Temjen Imna Along at a meeting here, Singh said that development of the northeastern region was a priority for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region said that an exclusive ‘NITI Forum for Northeast’ has been set up by the central government for the development of the northeast region.

Along said that his state would soon become a hub to promote higher education avenues for the youth.

“The youth’s energies need to be channeled in the right direction, for which education is an important tool, especially in insurgency- and conflict-hit areas,” Along said.

The Union Minister also talked about “Kashmir Super 30” initiative of the Indian Army, through which students from weaker sections in Jammu and Kashmir have made it to prestigious IITs and NITs.
