Valladolid, Spain, Oct 7 (IANS) Real Valladolid on Sunday claimed its third win this season in La Liga, topping visiting Huesca 1-0 at Jose Zorrilla stadium.
Huesca started the match by attacking, something striking given that the club has managed only one win, two draws and five defeats so far, something that has made the team drop to the last spot on the standings, reports Efe news.
However, Valladolid’s defense was focused and did not allow the visitors to find the net, hence Huesca only had one chance on a far-range shot by Argentine forward Luis Ezequiel Avila, known as Chimy, that went wide.
The host’s 27-year-old Barcelona-born midfielder Ruben Alcaraz netted the lone goal in the match, two minutes before the half-hour mark, on a free kick as his shot found the back of Huesca’s net.
The visiting side tried to get on the scoreboard before the break with no success, and their efforts continued in the second half, however they could not get past Valladolid defense until the final whistle.
With its third win of the season, Valladolid has provisionally climbed to sixth in the standings with 12 points, while Huesca stayed in the 20th and last place with five.
