Jaipur, Dec 11 (IANS) Rajasthan Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday won the Jhalrapatan Assembly seat, defeating her Congress rival Manvendra Singh.
Singh, son of BJP stalwart Jaswant Singh, switched over from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just a few weeks before he was fielded against the Chief Minister.
Manvendra Singh was denied ticket in the last Assembly election and so he contested as an independent and lost. The family’s relations with the BJP turned sour from then on.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was elected from Sardarpura constituency, defeating BJP’s Shambhu Singh Khetasar, while Rajasthan Congress President Sachin Pilot won from Tonk, worsting his BJP rival Yoonus Khan.
Khan was the only Muslim candidate fielded by the BJP in the Rajasthan Assembly polls.
