Ahead of LS polls veteran Bollywood actress Moushumi Chatterjee joins BJP

New Delhi: Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, veteran Bollywood actor Moushumi Chatterjee on Wednesday joined the BJP in the national capital.

She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of party’s national secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Chatterjee, who contested 2004 Lok Sabha unsuccessfully as Congress candidate from Kolkata North East constituency, lost to Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) candidate Mohammad Salim.

Moushumi Chatterjee (born 26 April 1948) is an Indian actress who is recognized for her work in Hindi as well as Bengali cinema. Her on-screen pairings with actors such as Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Vinod Mehra were popular. She was the sixth highest paid actress in Hindi films.She has joined bjp on 2 January 2019.

Moushumi Chatterjee was born in Calcutta. Her father Prantosh Chattopadhyaya was in the Indian Army and her grandfather was a judge.

She is married to Jayant Mukherjee (son of famous playback singer Hemant Kumar). They have two daughters, Payal and Megha. She started to act in Bollywood movies after her marriage, which was quite unusual for Indian women during that time.
