Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar’s fined for parking in “NO PARKING” zone.

Rules and laws are meant for all and Mumbai’s Mayor recently was recently reminded of this .The traffic police on Monday issued a challan after Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar’s official vehicle was found parked in a no-parking zone, an official said.

Mahadeshwar’s vehicle was seen parked right under the BMC’s no-parking signboard in suburban Vile Parle Saturday, said the official. At that time, Mahadeshwar, a Shiv Sena leader, was visiting the Koldongari area in Vile Parle.

Mumbai has seen a massive drive in the past few days against traffic violations which has also led to debates and discussions galore. A no-tolerance policy against traffic offenders is being seen as a way to improve the situation on the city’s busy roads.

Those questioning strict penalties against violations such as parking in a no-parking zone argue that authorities must first construct more parking places before declaring areas as prohibited for stationary vehicles. They also say that because of the general lack of space on Mumbai’s street.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has started a drive against unauthorized parking since last week and collected lakhs of rupees in fine. The civic body has been imposing hefty fines on vehicles parked within a 500-meter radius of 29 authorized public parking lots in the metropolis, the official said.
