Mumbai: Bollywood’s Shahenshah, Amitabh Bachchan on Wednesday was left with no words to express his gratitude after he was selected to be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Amitabh Bachchan has entertained the world with his charismatic performances for the last 50 years, and is one of the most influential actors of the Indian film industry.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar confirmed the news in a Twitter post.
“The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him. @narendramodi @SrBachchan,” Javadekar tweeted, tagging both the Prime Minister and the actor.

The 76-year actor, who completes 50 years in cinema, took to Twitter to share his happiness with fans.
“There is a paucity of words searching a response .. for the generosity of words that pour in.. I am but deeply grateful and most humbled .. my sincerest gratitude,” Bachchan wrote.

In the lead up to the announcement made by the government regarding the award being bestowed on Big B, the actor will receive a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
Celebrities across film industries in India also congratulated the megastar on Tuesday as he was recognised for the highest honour in Indian cinema.
Last seen on the big screen in ‘Badla’, the actor is a recipient of four National Film Awards for his performances in ‘Agneepath’, ‘Black’, ‘Paa’ and ‘Piku’. The 76-year-old star made his Bollywood debut in 1969 with ‘Saat Hindustani.’
The award is named after the father of Indian cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, and is considered the highest honour for an artiste in Indian cinema.
