Vishal Sonkar wins Dance Deewane 2

Mumbai: A stage which proved time and again that age is just a number and a passion for dance is the only language, saw a thrilling culmination to months of intense competition as Vishal Sonkar was crowned the winner of ‘Dance Deewane 2’ in a grand finale yesterday (28th September)

He took home the winner’s trophy and a cash prize of Rs 15 lakhs. The show was judged by dancing diva Madhuri Dixit along with filmmaker Shashank Khaitan and choreographer Tushar Kalia. The 23-year old competed against Mehul Mehta, Vihan Trivedi and Tweesha Patel. Runners-up Twesha and Mehul were awarded a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each.

Vishal Sonkar, a 23 year’s old unmarried boy, was born in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India in the year 1996. Formerly, he was a delivery boy but is now a proud dancer by profession.

Talking about his big win, Vishal said, “Honestly, I was not expecting it. I am at the moment overjoyed. I not only won in my generation but also the overall show. It was truly a double whammy for me.”

“Luckily, my mother managed to come for the finale. It was her blessings that I could emerge victorious. When my name was announced, she started crying. Later she told me that had my father been alive, he would have been so happy. I assured her that this is just the first step and I will make them both more proud,” said Vishal.

Dance Deewane grand finale was kick-started by the finalists. Vishal Sonkar gave an amazing performance on Yeh Honsla and Aashayein from Iqbal. Priyanka Chopra, who was on the show to promote her upcoming movie The Sky Is Pink, told Vishal that even she hails from Jamshedpur. Post his performance, Shashank Khaitan praised Vishal and said that he is proud of him, while, Madhuri Dixit called him a real-life hero.
