The mobile industry organization ICEA, in its report released on Friday, claimed that if the lockdown does not open in the country, by the end of May, around four crore people will be without mobile. The organization said that the country currently has 85 crore mobile subscribers out of which .25 per cent of mobiles are broken every month while a large number of mobiles are also defective.
In such a situation, if the lockdown is not removed and mobile shops are not opened, by the end of May, four crore people will be without mobile. At the moment, about 25 million mobiles are not working in the country because mobile repair shops are closed, so consumers are not able to get their mobiles made.
ICEA chairman Pankaj Mahindra said that he has approached several people in the government, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to bring mobile phones under the purview of essential goods and services. He said that it is important to open online sales of mobile phones in the country, while retail shops and service centers should also be opened in a phased manner.
To prevent corona virus, it has been closed from March 25 to May 3 across the country. During this time only the supply of essential goods and services is on. Telecom, Internet, broadcasting and information technology services are allowed to continue but mobile phone sales are not allowed.
