The eyes of the entire world are now once again on the University of Oxford regarding the Corona virus vaccine. In fact, after the initiative phase of the human trial of the vaccine being prepared by the university is being prepared, it is now being prepared to take it to another level.
Researchers at the University of Oxford on Friday confirmed initial successes on the vaccine to protect against the corona virus, saying they are moving to another level of human testing.
According to the researchers, they are going to the next level, starting to recruit more than 10,000 people for the second phase of testing.
The first phase of the trial on the vaccine began last month, with 1,000 healthy adults and volunteers under age 55 being trialled. Now over 10,200 people, including children over 70 years and 5 to 12 years old, will be enrolled for the study to see the impact on their immune system.
A recent study found that the vaccine named ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 showed some promising results in small studies with monkeys.
‘The COVID-19 vaccine trial team is working hard to assess the safety and immunogenicity and vaccine efficacy of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19,’ said Sarah Gilbert, a professor of vaccineology at the university’s Jenner Institute.
He said that we are already very interested in people over the age of 55 who were not eligible to participate in the first phase of research, and now we will be able to include older age groups to continue vaccination . We will cover many parts of the country as well as more study sites.
ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 is composed of a virus (ChAdOx1), a weaker version of a common cold virus (adenovirus) that causes infection in chimpanzee, which has been genetically such that it is impossible to replicate in humans.
With this new team of volunteers, researchers will assess immune responses to the vaccine in people of different ages to find out how well the immune system reacts in older people or children. The third phase of the study will study people over the age of 18 to see how it works on them.
