A large number of health workers are reported to be infected with corona in India.Meanwhile, a robot has been developed in Denmark that will test the Covid-19 infection on its own.
Different types of tests are available to determine whether a person has been infected with the corona virus. In some cases a blood test is done. But the most accurate is the swab test. A long-earbud-like swob inside the nose or throat is sampled. There is a risk of contamination of the sample taker.
The University of Southern Denmark says that researchers there have created the world’s first fully automated robot, which alone is capable of testing the Covid-19. It is expected that it can be put into use from June. It is designed with the help of a 3D printer. The patient sits in front of the robot and opens the mouth and the robot used to put a swob in his mouth. Taking the sample, the robot itself puts the swab in the test tube and also puts a lid on it.
Theusius Rajeet Rathmuthu, who built this robot, says that I was one of the first people who tested the robot. I was surprised at how comfortably the robot hugged Swob to the place where he was supposed to deliver. This is a huge success. For the past 1 month, Professor Svirimuthu was working with a team of 10 people to develop robots in the Industry 4.0 laboratory of the University of Southern Denmark.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the World Health Organization has been emphasizing more and more tests, but the more tests that are being done, the greater the danger on health workers. In this case, the robot can prove to be very helpful. Professor Rathmuthu says that this robot will benefit not only in case of corona virus, but also in other such diseases occurring in future. It can also be used for general flu testing.
One advantage of this robot is that neither it will get tired nor will it get bored by doing one type of work continuously. Currently, health workers are required to wear PPE while taking samples, as they cannot be reused, so health workers are expected to keep them for at least 8-9 hours. In such a situation, neither can they go to the toilet nor can they eat or drink anything.
It is expected that such robots can be installed at airports so that a large number of simultaneous tests can be made possible. This robot, prepared in the lab, is now awaiting buyers. This prototype may take 3 to 4 months to be mass-produced.
