Marriage traditions in India are a fun affair filled with music, dance, and celebration. However, there are certain age-old customs that still prevail in today’s time. Like, a Manglik girl should marry a peepal tree before her actual wedding or a person should marry a dog to release their bad luck.
Speaking of which, a man in Uttar Pradesh married a wooden effigy recently. The bizarre wedding took place in Prayagraj and was full of elaborate rituals. But why did the man agree to marry a wooden bride? Well, he did so on the insistence of his 90-year-old father.According to the groom’s relatives, this was his father’s last wish. His father Shiv Mohan was quoted saying,“I have nine sons, eight of them are married. The youngest one has no property and is not intelligent enough, so I got him married to an effigy.”
The ‘wooden bride’ wore red silk and was decked in flowers for every ritual. A priest solemnized the marriage which included the exchange of garlands and ‘saath pheras’. A handful of relatives attended the nuptials.
According to reports, Shiv Mohan wanted all his sons to get married before he died. So, his relatives and local priests supposedly convinced him to marry his son to an effigy in the absence of a bride. Well, what do you think about this unusual union? Tell us in the comments below.
