Senior BJP leader Manoj Sinha was appointed as the Deputy Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
His appointment came a day after the sudden resignation of GC Murmu.
Murmu resigned from his post just 9 months after the completion of one year of repeal of Article 370 in the erstwhile state and took over the reins of this new Union Territory.
Murmu sent his resignation to the President on Wednesday.
President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the resignation of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Murmu and appointed Sinha to the post.
In a statement issued from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, “The President has appointed Manoj Sinha as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Sinha has represented Ghazipur parliamentary constituency of eastern Uttar Pradesh thrice in the Lok Sabha.
Sinha has also served as Minister of State for Railways and Minister of State for Communications (Independent Charge).
