Hero MotoCorp on Saturday announced that it has established a separate unit to progress the Harley-Davidson business in India.
The leading two-wheeler manufacturer has appointed Ravi Avalur as the Business Unit Head of the new vertical and he will report to Hero MotoCorp Chairman and Cheif Executive Officer Dr Pawan Munjal. “The team in the new business unit also includes four executives from Harley-Davidson’s erstwhile India operations, bringing in years of competencies in the areas of sales, marketing, customer experiences, service and logistics,” Hero MotoCorp said.
Avalur has joined Hero MotoCorp from engines and engine components manufacturer Cooper, where he was the Head of Strategy and International Business. He has also served as the Ducati India Managing Director.
While Hero MotoCorp has brought into its fold 11 existing Harley-Davidson dealers across the country, it commenced wholesale dispatches of Harley-Davidson products to the dealers on January 18.
In October 2020, Hero Moto Corp and Harley-Davidson signed an agreement under which the former will sell the latter’s motorcycles, motorcycle parts, accessories and general merchandise through a network of brand-exclusive Harley-Davidson dealers and its own dealership network in India. As per a licensing agreement, Hero MotoCorp will also develop and sell a range of premium motorcycles under the Harley-Davidson brand name.
