Construction work of 63-km Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will start from June. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has already started the land acquisition for the project.
According to NHAI officials, tenders for hiring agencies to carry out the construction work will begin in March. Once completed, the expressway will not only reduce traffic jams on the route, but the journey from Lucknow from Lucknow to Kanpur or vice versa, will be completed in just 45 minutes. At present, it takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the journey. Total cost of the project is said to be Rs 4,700 crore.
As per the proposal, 13-km of expressway from Lucknow’s Amausi to Bani would be elevated. The expressway will be connected to the proposed ring road in Kanpur. The construction of the expressway will start near Shaheed Path and after this Nawabganj will be connected with Kanpur via Banthra, Bani, Datouli and Kantha.
NHAI regional officer Abdul Basit said, “Tender will be floated in March for hiring construction agencies to start the work of expressway. The construction work will also begin as soon as the land is provided by the government and construction agencies are finalized.”
