Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Saturday seized Allahabad bank account of Uttar Pradesh Agro Industrial Corporation Limited (UPAICL) due to pending property tax worth Rs 66 lakh.
According to LMC officials, even after several reminders from the civic body, UPAICL have not paid their property tax amount for the past three years. LMC chief tax collection officer Ashok Singh said, “The corporation has been given a timelimit of three days to pay the due amount, after that LMC will issue a notice to the concerned bank to pay the pending amount from the account of UPAICL. Till then, the body cannot do transactions from the account.”
LMC officials also told that UPAICL has given assurance that the pending amount will be paid till Monday or Tuesday.
Similarly, the civic body also sealed three commercial units located in Vikasnagar due to their pending property tax amount. As per LMC records, a total of Rs 4.45 lakhs was to be paid by these three commercial units. A total of Rs 2.30 lakhs was paid by four other commercial units as pending property tax including monetary penalty in the same area.
Municipal corporation has so far recovered more than Rs 2.30 crore from big commercial property defaulters after conducting regular drives against them. Last year, LMC only managed to recover around Rs 89 lakh from its drives against defaulters.
