In Ukraine’s capital Kiev, there has been an uproar over women soldiers wearing high-heeled sandals paraded. People have expressed anger by linking it to sexism. Opposition leaders have also called it a matter related to discrimination between women and men. It is alleged that during the parade, these women soldiers were asked to wear high heel sandals in place of military shoes to make them look beautiful.

Let us tell, Defense Ministry information site ArmienForm quoted Cadet Ivana Medvid, “Today is the first time training in heel shoes, it is a little harder than army shoes but we are trying.” But this post backfired on the officers as many believe that parading women soldiers wearing such shoes is to sexually exploit them. The Defense Ministry is being accused of sexism and misogyny.

Not only the social media users, but the leaders of the Parliament have also criticized this move of the government. Leaders close to former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko arrived in parliament with sandals and asked the defense minister to wear high heels for the parade. Talking about the disadvantages of wearing high heels, one leader said, it is hard to even imagine such a harmful and foolish idea.
