Thursday’s day at the Tokyo Olympics brought two medals for India. The first hockey team won the bronze medal. Then Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya won silver medal in wrestling. At the same time, Deepak Poonia, who was hoping for a second medal in wrestling, lost his bronze medal match. Ravi Kumar Dahiya lost 7-4 to Russian Olympic Committee wrestler Zor Uguev in the final of 57kg freestyle wrestling on Thursday. So in the 86 kg freestyle wrestling, Punia lost to the wrestler Miles Amin of the European country San Marino.
The first half of the 57 kg freestyle wrestling final started with Ravi losing two points. Ravi soon leveled but the Russian Olympic Committee wrestlers led 4-2 in the first half. In the second half also Ravi could score only two points. On the other hand, Zor Uguev scored three points and won the match 7-4.
In the first half of the match, Poonia took an early 2-1 lead over Miles Amin but in the last 15 seconds, Miles overthrew Poonia and missed out on winning the bronze medal. Miles is the first wrestler from San Marino to play in the Olympics. This is the first time that this European country has won a medal in Olympic wrestling.
