Both China and Pakistan are also among the few countries whose embassies are still active in Afghanistan after the capture of the Taliban. On the one hand, there are worrying pictures of people shocked and disturbed from Afghanistan. On the other hand, the soft attitude of China and Pakistan towards Taliban is also a matter of discussion.

According to reports, Zalmay Khalilzad, the envoy for the peace process in Afghanistan, told the Taliban that they would not get international recognition if they grabbed power by force. However, this does not seem to be happening completely. Many experts are not at all surprised at this ‘romance’ between China-Pakistan and the Taliban. He sees it as a major “diplomatic victory” for the Taliban.

Professor Gautam Mukhopadhyay has been India’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Syria and Myanmar. “The support of China will certainly boost the spirits of the Taliban and in a way it is a diplomatic victory for them, but it also poses a threat to China,” he said. According to Gautam Mukhopadhyay, “Pakistan’s image is already very bad and in such a situation, China’s support to the Taliban along with it will tarnish China’s own image to some extent.”
