Mahila Congress files complaints against Kangana Ranaut over ‘bheek’ remark

The Rajasthan wing of the All India Mahila Congress has lodged multiple complaints against actor Kangana Ranaut over her remarks terming India’s independence in 1947 as ‘bheek’ (alms).

Complaints have been filed against Kangana Ranaut in various districts of Rajasthan, including in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Churu.

The complaint states that the actor insulted freedom fighters and the people of the country through her statement, which falls under the “category of sedition”. It further says that Ranaut’s statement was a “deliberate move” from a public platform, which has hurt the sentiments of Indians.

PTI reported that a complaint was filed at Jodhpur’s Shastri Nagar police station and has been taken up for inquiry.

Jaipur Kotwali SHO Omprakash said an office-bearer of the Mahila Congress has given a complaint in this regard and it is being investigated.

At an event on Thursday, Kangana Ranaut had reportedly said that the independence that was attained in 1947 was nothing but ‘bheek’ (alms). She also mentioned that India attained freedom in 2014 when the Narendra Modi-led government came to power.
