Gold worth Rs 1 crore seized by Delhi customs from a passenger coming from Dubai

An Indian passenger who arrived at the Delhi airport from Dubai on Saturday was arrested after gold worth more than one crore rupees was found to be hidden under his leather belt.

On Saturday morning, Delhi Customs detained the passenger from Dubai on the basis of profiling. A search was conducted and 2,330 grams of raw gold in the form of chains was recovered from under the passenger’s belt. The value of the seized gold, which was concealed by the passenger around his waist, is more than one crore rupees.

On interrogation, the passenger confessed to smuggling gold chains in a similar manner on four previous occasions. The cumulative value of gold smuggled by him comes to around Rs 2.6 crore.

He has now been arrested and further investigation is underway.

Earlier this week, a man and a woman were arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport by the customs department in two separate cases of gold smuggling from Paris and Dubai respectively. The total value of the gold recovered in these two cases amounts to around Rs 70 lakh.
