Night curfew implemented in Andhra Pradesh with Covid cases go past between 10,000

As cases increase sharply and cross the 10,000 mark, authorities in Andhra Pradesh are implementing a night curfew and strict Covid protocol.

On Wednesday, January 19, Andhra Pradesh’s Covid numbers touched 10,057, which alarmed the authorities. This is the highest surge of Covid cases in Andhra Pradesh since June 13, 2021.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has urged the health department to increase the number of beds in hospitals and to take necessary action on testing, tracing and tracking the affected people.

On Tuesday, the state had reported 6,996 fresh cases.

The state positivity rate is 18.38%, and the government has imposed a night curfew between 11 pm and 5 am from January 18 to curb the pandemic.

In Andhra Pradeh’s West Godavari, Circle Inspector (CI) Adi Prasad drove an ambulance during the night curfew, picking up violators and sending them to quarantine centres.

The police have also warned that anyone without masks would be taken directly to the Covid care centre and put under isolation.
