Noida Police on Wednesday intercepted a young man during late night checking near the outpost of Sector-60 under the police station area of Noida Sector-58 and recovered Rs 22 lakh cash, which was hidden in his luxury car.
The cash was seized by police officials as the young man, identified as Rohit Awana, could not provide a satisfactory response or evidence regarding the large amount in his car.
Noida Police has seized the property for investigation and has also taken the youth into custody for further questioning.
Police seize Rs 22 lakh unaccounted cash
According to the police, the youth in his luxury car, a Porsche, was intercepted during the late night checking conducted under Sector-58 Noida police station area and SST (Permanent Monitoring Committee) on January 26.
During checking, police recovered Rs 21,23,990 in cash from his possession which was later seized as he could not provide a satisfactory response or evidence regarding the large amount in his car.
Vigilant checking due to upcoming assembly elections
According to officials, security has been tightened and vigilant checking is being carried out across Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar, which borders Delhi and parts of Haryana, in view of the upcoming Assembly elections beginning February 10.
Under the new rules, carrying a large amount of cash is prohibited at the time of election and strict actions will be taken under relevant sections against if found violating model of code conduct.
