The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiyy, rejected the US offer to evacuate Kyiv as the Russian forces neared the capital. After the US asked the Ukrainian President to flee the country, Zelenskiyy replied with an optimistic character that, “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.”
Russian forces encircled Kyiv even after the regular calls from the West. The Russian President has been hesitant to pay any attention towards the calls like withdrawing their troops from Ukraine and cohere the principles of International laws and the Charter of the UN.
Many rumors of Zelenskiyy fleeing the country hover over social media. In reply to those rumors, the Ukrainian President posted a video of himself with his keys adjunct, standing outside the presidency building, pledging to defend Kyiv against the Russian invasion.
“We’re all here. Our military is here. Citizens in society are here. We’re all here defending our independence, our country, and it will stay this way,” Zelenskiyy quoted. The Ukrainian President has been reaching out to other countries for help. Zelenskiyy stated that on Friday, he spoke to the US President Joe Biden about military aid and sanctions.
“Strengthening sanctions, concrete defense assistance and an anti-war coalition have just been discussed” with Biden, the Ukrainian President wrote on Twitter while expressing his acknowledgement towards the “strong” American support.
The call from the West to resolve the matter with the unconditional withdrawal of the Russian forces from the Ukrainian territories, also ceased to function at the UN Security Council as Russia Vetoed it out.
The adoption of the resolution were voted by eleven members in the UN Security Council, while three nations including India and China abstained their votes.
