The rowdy, Niravi Murugan, has over 60 cases registered against him. Some of his more heinous crimes include murder and kidnappings registered against him in Tirunelvelli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts.

Niravi Murugan, an accused in more than 60 cases, was one of the suspects in a robbery case that took place at Dindigul’s Oddanchatram. Over 40 sovereigns of gold were stolen from a doctor’s residence and Murugan was involved in the crime.

The most prolific crime he was allegedly involved in was the 2004 high-profile murder of Aladi Aruna, the former law minister of Tamil Nadu. Murugan was also being hunted for crimes in other states like Karnataka.

The special police in Dindigul, based on a tip off, were searching for Murugan, who was hiding in Kalakkad municipality of Tirunelveli district.

When the police arrived at the location to nab the history-sheeter, he tried to escape by attacking a few of the police officials. As a result of his attack, four police officials sustained minor injuries.

As Murugan was trying to escape, sub-inspector Esakkiraja, who was in charge of the operation, shot Murugan, and he died on the spot.
