I have always been told that the only thing more dangerous than having wrong information is having half information.
Having the wrong idea about something is still easy to deal with – you can always be corrected. But having half-baked facts guide you into a conversation where you’re not even making sense is harmful because you can’t just be rectified, you have to show exactly where you got it all wrong.
Like a bunch of men on a ferry who couldn’t help but harass a Kannadiga woman for not speaking Hindi, claiming she should speak Hindi considering she is ‘Hindustani’.
The men can be heard hurling comments like, “Hindi bol, Hindi. We are Hindustani,” at the woman.
The video of the incident that has gone viral on the internet and has sparked outrage, is a classic example of just how misinformed and entitled the population of our country is when it comes to getting national facts right.
