New Delhi: Taking a u-turn from earlier position, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Tuesday said city police would oppose Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea in the high court.
Kanhaiya, who has been booked for sedition, may move a bail plea in the high court later in the day.
“Now we feel that if released on bail, Kanhaiya may influence witnesses and the investigation. So, we are opposing the bail,” Bassi told reporters here.
He also urged JNU student Omar Khalid and others, who are currently lodging at the JNU, to join the investigation.
“We hope that better sense prevails and all the accused join investigation. If they don’t cooperate, we have all the options and we would not fight shy of using those options,” Bassi added.
