Gondia: A trainer aircraft crashed on the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border on Wednesday, killing the pilot and a trainee, after the craft got entangled in wires, officials said.
Pilot Ranjan Gunta and student pilot Himani died when the National Flying Training Institute (NFTI) aircraft crashed around 9.30 a.m into the Vainganga river.
Balaghat district Khairlanji police station in-charge Amit Jadhav, who reached the site of the accident, told media persons that the four-seater craft left Birsi airport in Gondia, Maharashtra, in the morning.
The trainer aircraft, while flying over the river, got entangled in wires spread across it to measure the water level, the official said.
The accident happened near Lavni village, along the border of the two states, but falls within Maharashtra.
