At least 20 people, including three children, have died in a landslide in three different places in Assam on Tuesday in the Corona disaster. According to district administration officials, seven people died in Cachar and Hailakandi and six in Karimganj due to landslides, while several others were injured.
Officials said that in Jayapur in Cachar district, Tajim Uddin Laskar, his three daughters and three sons were buried alive in the rubble. The police took out Laskar’s wife and a son alive and admitted him to a government hospital. Another incident took place at Alagapur in Hailakandi district, where seven people from two families were killed, including four women and a child.
The third incident took place in Kaliganj area of Karimganj district, where six people were killed, including three women and two children. The bodies were taken out with the help of several teams of Assam State Disaster Response Force, police and locals, the injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
Condoling the deaths, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the district administration to take all steps to help the affected families. He also asked the authorities to approve financial assistance to the families of the victims.
