The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday announced a statewide weekend lockdown to curb the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state. The weekend lockdown will come into force from April 24.
As per the new directive, districts with more than 500 active Covid-19 cases will also remain under night curfew, effective between 8 PM to 7 AM every day, until further orders.
This comes at a time Uttar Pradesh is reeling from a massive surge in the daily Covid-19 tally. As per the Union health ministry data provided on Tuesday morning, Uttar Pradesh reported 28,211 cases in the last 24 hours.
In his order to a special Covid-19 task force, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “Every citizen must contribute to make Corona curfew a success. As far as necessary, do not go out of the house. Celebrate festivals at home. If you go out, then wear a mask. There must be no crowds in public places. It should be strictly implemented.”
On returning migrants
CM Yogi Adityanath directed authorities to ensure a smooth return for migrants coming back from Delhi, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. He also asked the officials to make sure that people returning from other states are tested for Covid-19.
The chief minister also asked officials to take extra precautions in the state’s border districts.
