The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind lauded the UP government for working towards ‘Welfare of All’ on Tuesday.
“Baba Saheb always emphasised that the mission of any government should be ‘Bhavatu Sab Mangalam’ – meaning, [May all beings be happy]. I appreciate the initiative of the UP government in fulfilling this objective of ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ in letter and spirit ,” he said.
The President stated this while laying the foundation stone of Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Cultural Centre at an event held in Lok Bhawan .
President Ram Nath Kovind, in his address on the occasion, threw light on the life and work of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution of India.
“Baba Saheb has a special relationship with Lucknow. Apart from spending a lot of time in Lucknow, he used to adore the cultural heritage of the city. I also appreciate the initiative of the UP government to establish this memorial in Lucknow”, added the President.
Referring to the ideals of Babasaheb, President Kovind said that Babasaheb always worked towards empowering women and providing them equal rights in the society. In the Constitution of India, equal rights have been provided to women in every field including the Right to Vote from the very beginning. Not only this, today our legal system is progressing on the path suggested by Baba saheb on many subjects like succession on property of women. Baba saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was a visionary thinker. He was not only an educationist, economist, jurist, politician, journalist, sociologist and social reformer, he has also made invaluable contributions in the fields of culture, religion and spirituality.
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh welcomed President Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind at the Lok Bhawan. The event was attended by Governor Anandiben Patel, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma.Tourism and Culture Affairs Minister Neelkanth Tiwari, MLC Swantantra Dev Singh also shared the stage.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said “We all remember Baba Bhim Rao as the creator of the constitution. Baba Ambedkar’s name will be taken with full respect not only in India but wherever justice comes for the downtrodden and the backward. It is an important day today as on the same day 93 years back, Baba Saheb started the weekly newspaper Samta on June 29,1928. He has always worked for the betterment of Indian Society. This state of the art museum and cultural centre will carry forward the memories and principles of Baba Saheb.”
The President was in Lucknow on a two-day visit. He arrived in the state capital from Kanpur on Monday morning and left for Delhi on Tuesday evening.
Last week the UP cabinet had approved a proposal of the state cultural department for construction of the cultural centre at Aishbagh.The memorial will come up at 5493.52 sq meter nazool land in front Aishbagh Eidgah and have a 25-ft high statue of Dr Ambedkar.The centre, to come up at a cost of ₹45.04 crore, will also have an auditorium having a capacity of 750 people, library, research centre, picture gallery, museum and a multi-purpose convention centre. Besides, it will have a cafeteria, dormitory and other facilities. The cultural department is likely to start the construction work soon.
