The US military has conducted air strikes against the Taliban in support of Afghan forces in several parts of Afghanistan, including Kandahar. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed the attacks on Thursday. Talking to reporters, he did not say where the attacks came from or what type of aircraft they were. He said, “Over the past few days, we have conducted airstrikes in support of the Afghan national defense and security forces. But I cannot provide further technical details on these attacks.

Kirby’s remarks came after another US defense official told the Associated Press that the United States had conducted more than four airstrikes in support of Afghan forces on Wednesday and Thursday. The official said the airstrikes destroyed equipment and vehicles that the Taliban had taken from the Afghan army.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the attacks, saying no casualties or injuries were reported. “We consider the action of the United States a clear violation of the Doha Agreement. We will not remain silent on this and the United States will be responsible for the consequences,” he told the BBC. A Pentagon spokesman said the US would continue to provide aid to the Afghan military even after the withdrawal of US troops.
