Kerala government has decided to impose a complete weekend lockdown on July 31 and August 1 due to rising Covid-19 cases in the state.
An official order issued by Chief Secretary Dr VP Roy said that existing categorisation of Local Self Government Institutions (LSGIs) and restrictions or relaxations in respective categories will also continue.
“As part of Covid-19 containment activities, the LSGIs in the state were categorised based on the seven day average Test Positivity Rate (TPR) and certain relaxations on lockdown were extended to the areas where the TPR is less and special intensified stringent restrictions are being implemented in the areas where TPR is high,” the order said.
The government has reiterated that photo studios will be permitted to function on allowable days in respective LSGIs in view of the NEET examination requirements.
“The price section of the Economics and Statistics department is included in an essential service for working on all days with required staff. It is reiterated that shops selling seeds and fertilizers will be permitted in the essential category,” the order said.
The Kerala Books and Publication Society (KPBS) is allowed to function during Saturday and Sunday as well for the purpose of printing textbooks.
Earlier, the state government had imposed a complete weekend lockdown ion July 24 and 25 in view of the rising cases.
The government has also asked district collectors to identify and demarcate micro-containment zones in all districts, regardless of the categorisation of the LSGI regions. In such areas, intensified restrictions have been ordered to bring down rising Covid-19 infections.
