Smartphone Nokia X20 to finally get Android 12 update: Read here

Nokia X20 is the first phone from HMD Global to receive the Android 12 software, although through the developer preview channel. The rollout comes months after HMD opened the Android 12 Developer Preview Program back in May, and anyone who enrolled can now download and install the early build of Android 12. The Nokia X20 is the only phone right now from the company to support the next version of Android and, interestingly, it is available only in select markets.

People with the Nokia X20 who are a part of the program will be able to use the Android 12 Developer Preview build. So if you enrol your account and phone in the Android 12 Developer Preview Program right now, chances are you will not immediately get the build. Anyway, HMD has laid out a simple process of updating the Nokia X20 to run the latest build. Here is how:

  • Go to the My Phone app on your Nokia X20.
  • Tap on the Support banner.
  • Scroll down to where you find “Android developer preview”.
  • Tap on it and the app will begin verifying your phone through the IMEI number.
  • After the verification process, the app will ask you to agree to the terms and conditions.
  • Now, your phone is likely to get the Android 12 Developer Preview in the next 12 hours automatically. However, if you do not get it, go to the System Updates section and fetch the update.

Even though the rollout is good news for some Nokia X20 users, HMD has warned against bugs and issues that may not offer a good Android experience. HMD has listed some bugs on the website and every user who would opt for the Android 12 Developer Preview Program needs to know that before downloading and updating their unit. The builds that the Nokia X20 will be getting under this programme are meant for developers, and HMD expects feedback from people using it.

People in India have no luck here. HMD has not launched the Nokia X20 phone in India yet, and it does not seem optimistic about launching it anytime soon either. This means the Nokia users in India still do not have anything or anywhere to go when it comes to adopting the Android 12 software, even in its developer beta form. HMD, however, confirmed earlier this year that it would launch the Nokia XR20 phone in India later this year.
