Days after the world witnessed the longest partial lunar eclipse in over 500 years, stargazers are in for another celestial event. The last Solar Eclipse of the year will take place on December 4 and will be visible in several parts of the world.
Meanwhile, Antarctica will be the only place to witness a Total Solar Eclipse.
WHAT IS TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE?
A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, casting a shadow on Earth, fully or partially blocking the Sun’s light in some areas. A Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned directly. People in the path of a total solar eclipse can see the Sun’s corona, the outer atmosphere, which is otherwise usually obscured by the bright face of the Sun.
A total solar eclipse is the only type of solar eclipse where viewers can watch without their eclipse glasses and they can only remove them when the Moon is completely blocking the Sun. A total eclipse, when the Sun is completely blocked by the Moon, will last up to a few minutes, depending on your location.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE BE SEEN?
The December 4 Total Solar Eclipse will begin at 10:59 am IST and the full eclipse will be visible at 12:30 pm IST. The maximum eclipse will be seen at 01:03 pm and the event will come to an end at 3:07 pm.
The ecilpse will be visible in parts of South Australia, South Africa, South America, the Pacific, the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Antarctica.
According to Nasa, viewers in parts of Saint Helena, Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa, South Georgia and Sandwich Islands, Crozet Islands, Falkland Islands, Chile, New Zealand, and Australia will see a partial solar eclipse on December 4. In many of these locations, the eclipse will occur before, during, and after sunrise or sunset. This means that viewers will need to get a clear view of the horizon during sunrise or sunset in order to see the eclipse.
