Congress leader P Chidambaram says that PM Modi can only be find in Varanasi and Ayodhya and not in Parliament

You will only find PM Narendra Modi in “places like Varanasi and Ayodhya and not in Parliament”, Congress leader P Chidambaram said on Tuesday.

Chidambaram, a former Union minister, made the remarks when asked to comment on the Prime Minister’s two-day visit to Varanasi for the inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor.

“PM has such great ‘respect’ for Parliament that he will skip the December 13 homage to martyred security staff. He’ll skip everything and go to Varanasi. You’ll only find him in places like Varanasi and Ayodhya, not in the Parliament,” Chidambaram was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The Congress leader was referring to the homage Parliament paid to the security personnel who laid down their lives while defending Parliament complex from a terrorist attack on December 13, 2001.

On Monday, both Houses of Parliament stood in silence as a mark of respect for the security personnel who lost their lives in the service of the nation.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla first mentioned the security personnel who lost their lives in the 2001 parliament attack.

“On this day in 2001, evil forces of terrorism tried to sabotage this August institution. However, their sinister motives were thwarted by the timely action of our valiant security forces, who kept a constant vigil on the situation and were steadfast in protecting this temple of democracy, even to the extent of laying down their lives,” Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu said.

On December 13, 2001, terrorists affiliated to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) opened fire inside Parliament complex, killing nine people – Jagdish Prasad Yadav and Matbar Singh Negi, both security assistants at the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Kamlesh Kumari, a CRPF constable, Nanak Chand and Rampal, assistant sub-inspectors of the Delhi Police, Om Prakash, Bijender Singh and Ghanshyam, head constables of the Delhi Police, and Deshraj, a gardener employed by the CPWD.

All five terrorists involved in the attack were also gunned down.
