Controversy erupts after male tailors measure women police for uniforms in Andhra Pradesh

Pictures and videos of male tailors measuring women police personnel for uniforms in Andhra Pradesh have gone viral. The incident took place in Nellore district. After noticing male tailors deployed to take the measurements, the women officers objected to it and raised concerns.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vijaya Rao intervened in the issue and replaced the team of male tailors while additional SP Venkataratnam was deployed to look at the entire issue.

SP Vijaya Rao assured that stringent action would be taken on the entire issue. He added that disciplinary action would be taken against the head constable who deployed the male tailor and assured that the women’s privacy was safe.

As the video and photographs of the measurement row went viral, the SP also announced action on the ‘unauthorised entry’ and said that police will take action on the person who filmed the incident.

Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission chief, V Padma, also spoke to the Nellore SP and sought an explanation.

Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has condemned the ‘disrespect’ of women police personnel. TDP Mahila state president, Vangalapudi Anitha, strongly objected to the use of male tailors.

“Not just the common women, even the women police have no security now,” fumed the TDP leader.

The TDP has demanded an explanation from Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy about the incident.
