Voters in the state capital came out with their ‘best-ever’ show recording a turnout of 60.05% on Wednesday. Even as the polling percentage was set to rise further as the district administration was still compiling the data at the time of the filing of this report, DM Abhishek Prakash claimed that it was the biggest since 1951 as the voter turnout has never breached 60%-mark in the city.
The previous best turnout in the district was in 2017 when it recorded 58.45% polling. The average turnout in the district since 2002 has been 43.24%, 37% (2007), 56.81% (2012) and 58.45% (2017).
