Amit Khatri created history in 10 thousand meter race walk, became silver medalist

Amit Khatri of India created history in the Under-20 World Athletics Championship being played in Nairobi, capital of Kenya. Amit managed to win a silver medal in the 10,000 meter walking race on Saturday. This is India’s second medal in this competition. Earlier, India had won a bronze medal in the 4X400m race.

Amit Khatri covered the distance in 42 minutes and 17.49 seconds. While the gold medal of this event went to Kenya’s Heristone Vanyoni, who completed the prescribed distance in 42.10 84 time. Spain’s Paul McGrath won the bronze medal by covering the distance in 42:26.11. This is the first time that India has won two medals in the walking event. Amit was leading from the beginning but in the last two rounds, the Kenyan runner put him behind.

This year has been better for 17-year-old Amit. Earlier this year, he set a new national U-20 record in the 10km run. During this, he won a medal in the 18th National Federation Cup with a time of 40.97 seconds.
