Former Indian Player Suresh Raina Creates Controversy from his ‘Brahmin’ Remark

Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has received flak over his ‘I am also Brahmin’ remark during his commentary stint in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). Raina created a furore on social media after he euqtaed Tamil Nadu and Chennai’s culture with Brahmin identity.

Raina, who has been playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the inception of the Indian Premier League, apart from the two seasons when the franchise was suspended in 2016 and 2017.

During the opening match of the 5th edition of the TNPL, Lyca Kovai Kings and Salem Spartans Raina was asked by the fellow commentators about his connection with Chennai.

“I think I am also a Brahmin. I have been playing since 2004 in Chennai, I love the culture. I love my teammates. I have played with Anirudha Srikanth, Badri (S Badrinath), Bala Bhai (L Balaji),” Raina was quoted as saying bt\y The Times of India.

“We have a good administration at CSK and we have the license to explore ourselves. I love the culture there, and I’m lucky to be part of CSK,” he added.

However, his remark didn’t sit well with the viewers as many criticised the 34-year old for his casteist comment during the commentary.
