Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that he finds some of the memes and trolls on him quite enjoyable and wouldn’t mind having a drink with some of them.
Shastri has often been the butt of all jokes on social media and even blamed most of the times for India’s failures in international cricket during his four-year stint with the national team.
But Shastri said he didn’t mind the memes and trolls even though people had a laugh at his expense.
“I quite enjoyed some of them (memes). That’s talent also. When they suddenly make me have a paunch, then it disappears the next day.
“There are bottles everywhere, it is a laugh at my expense. So at least in tough times you kept people in good humour. I would like to invite some of them for a drink,” Shastri told India Today’s Rajdeep Sardesai.
Shastri’s tenure ended after India’s exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the Super 12 stage.
India didn’t win a single ICC trophy under him but the former India all-rounder said he is leaving the team without any regrets despite not having achieved any major success in white-ball cricket in terms of world titles.
“This tenure has given me more job satisfaction than anything else. When in this job, you are just with your coaching staff. All you can do is create a mindset that allows the boys to play freely once they are out and giving back something.
“It has entailed a lot of sacrifice, especially in the last year and a half during Covid which cricket has not seen since the Second World War,” Shastri said.
