Honda Cars India has confirmed it will launch the Honda City strong hybrid in India on April 14. This variant is being termed the Honda City e:HEV and is set to be the first hybrid offering in the mass-market segment in the country. The hybrid City’s introduction has been long rumoured but has been delayed first by COVID19 and then ensuing chip shortages.
2022 Honda City e:HEV hybrid specifications, fuel efficiency
The Honda City hybrid is powered by a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol that put out 98PS and 127 Nm. This pairs with a 109PS and 253 Nm electric motor fed by a lithium-ion battery pack. An e-CVT gearbox then transmits power from the drivetrain to the wheels.
The drivetrain should offer three drive modes if the Thai-spec City is anything to go by. This will be an EV-only, hybrid mode that uses both powertrains as well an ICE-only mode. There should also be a regen function to harvest energy. This version returns 27.5 kmpl as per Honda’s claims in Thiland so a similar figure can be expected here.
2022 Honda City e:HEV hybrid interior, features, safety
The Honda City hybrid should be offered in the top-spec versions of the City. Notable features are an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa, Honda Connect suite with 32 connected-car features, 6.9-inch HD TFT instrument cluster, automatic headlamps, push start/stop button, electric sunroof and more. The City features six airbags, a lane-watch camera and is compliant with a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. The CVT version also adds remote start functions.
