The iPhone 13 launch is months away, but that doesn’t stop the Internet from getting new details every other day. The latest comes courtesy of an analyst who claims that the iPhone 13 series may be the first to get 1TB storage options, though it may be limited to just the Pro models, and we are not surprised.
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives, in an investor note, has also claimed that the entire iPhone 13 range will sport the LiDAR sensor. The camera feature was announced last year alongside the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The LiDAR sensor is one that has been widely said to be underused in its current form. However, it massively improves the overall augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) use cases for those unaware. The LiDAR sensor also enhances some of the existing features on the iPhone 12 Pro models, including the popular Measure app that LiDAR now aids. We will talk more about LiDAR in a bit.
Coming back to the latest analyst note, the iPhone 13 Pro models are said to pack a 1TB storage model, which is double the storage option on the top-spec 512GB model of the Pro and Pro Max models. If this comes out to be true, then the new iPhone 13 range will join the iPad Pro in offering massive storage options. The iPad Pro comes in both 1TB and 2TB storage options.
But this is not the first time that the upcoming iPhone 13 line-up is said to sport a massive 1TB storage option. There have been reports from earlier this year that claimed the 1TB storage on the iPhone 13 series. Popular tipster Jon Prosser also speculated that iPhones might finally get a 1TB storage option.
It will be interesting to see how Apple prices its top storage trim, considering the iPhone 12 Pro price in India starts at Rs 119,900 for the 128GB model and goes up to Rs 149,900 for the 512GB model. Similarly, the iPhone 12 Pro Max price in India starts at Rs 129,900 for the 128GB option and goes up to Rs 159,900 for the 512GB storage model. We can expect the 1TB storage model to be available at around Rs 20,000 more than the 512GB storage price in India. We have our fingers crossed and will wait for the September launch event.
The analyst, however, hasn’t mentioned if Apple will tweak its current storage trims for the Pro models. Currently, Apple offers 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options on iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max models.
MacRumors report further cites Ives, who claims Apple will finally bring the LiDAR sensor to all iPhone 13 models, starting from the iPhone 13 mini to iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, the new claim by Ives contradicts another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who recently claimed that the LiDAR sensor would remain exclusive to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, similar to iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Analyst Daniel Ives has also claimed that the company may launch the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16 inch models at WWDC 21,, kicking off next week and will again be a virtual event.
What is LiDAR sensor and some use cases?
Talking about the LiDAR sensor, it has made some subtle changes to how the camera on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max work. Some reports claim that the new sensors improve the camera to autofocus by enhancing the speed. Considering Apple hasn’t really revealed how well the LiDAR sensor works, it’s all in theory right now. You won’t find any setting toggles or a page where Apple explains the functionality. Interestingly, LiDAR is short for light detection and ranging, and it works how the time-of-flight sensor works on some Android phones.
LiDAR makes a difference in scanning the environment and adjusting the light depending on how much is available in the surroundings. During the launch in November last year, Apple said that the new sensors add depth scanning for better images. The LiDAR sensors have improved low-light photos on the Pro models.
