Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) announced on Monday that the lockdown inside the university campus has been extended till May 17. This has been done as per an order of the Delhi government to cut down the spread of Covid-19.
JNU had first implemented lockdown inside the campus on April 19. Later on, the JNU lockdown was extended twice after two orders of the Delhi government on April 26 and May 3.
What did the JNU order say?
“The curfew on movement of persons (as stipulated in the earlier orders) will be extended in the university premises till 5 am on 17.05.21 (Monday) or further orders, whichever will be earlier,” said the official JNU order.
The university added that from 10 am on Monday to 9 am on May 17, the Dr BR Ambedkar Central Library would remain strictly closed.
Marriage ceremonies with more than 20 people prohibited
Marriage ceremonies at public places and the community centre have been prohibited by JNU as well.
“The marriage may, however, be organized court or at home, in which not more than 20 people will be allowed to participate. The movement for the said purpose shall be allowed with production of soft or hard copy of marriage card,” said the official order from the varsity.
DJ, sound system, tentage, catering or similar kind of services will not be allowed for the marriage ceremony,” it added.
Tickets in several locations in campus
To prevent “unnecessary movement of people on roads during curfew”, JNU directed its security branch to put tickets in various campus locations so that people and vehicles could be checked effectively.
Those violating lockdown orders would face action as per the “provisions of section 51 to 60 of Disaster Management Act, 2005, Section 188 of IPC and other applicable laws”.
