Over 9000 tourists stranded in Sikkim after heavy snowfall.

Army and police are rescuing the stranded vehicles.

As man as 900 tourists travelling in several vehicles were stranded due to heavy snowfall while returning to the Sikkim capital from Nathula and Tsomgo Lake on Saturday evening, the police have said.

The joint evacuation by police and Army was underway and some of the vehicles were successfully taken out.

The now is being cleared slowly and the rescued vehicles are leaving for Gangtok, 42 km away from the spot.

Some tourists will also spend night at an Army camp in the vicinity which has promised all required help for the stranded tourists, the officials said.

The district administration had also stopped issuing passes for Nathula and Tsomgo Lake for a few days due to heavy snowfall in East Sikkim.
